An Invitation to Join!
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in joining or rejoining The Society for the History of Psychology.

SHP members seek to extend the awareness and appreciation of the history of psychology as an aid to the understanding of contemporary psychology, of the relation of the discipline to other scientific fields, and of its role in society. Some members of SHP are primarily interested in teaching the history of psychology, while others focus on original research and scholarship in the discipline. All members are encouraged to share their knowledge and contribute to the discipline of the history of psychology.

Who is Eligible?

Membership is open to all who are interested in the history of psychology, whether or not you are a member of APA. Students as well as teachers, researchers, and other professionals interested in the history of psychology are welcome to join.

Membership categories include:

    * Member: American Psychological Association (APA Associates, Members, & Fellows.
    * Affiliates: Professional (for nonmembers of the APA) &
                      Student: (for members and nonmembers of the APA).

To meet the needs of its members, the division:
  • Publishes the high quality journal, History of Psychology (quarterly), which includes the latest research in the history of psychology.
  • Fosters a scholarly community by facilitating discussions about the history of psychology.
  • Sponsors conference programs.
  • Organizes an SHP program at the APA Annual Conference.
  • Maintains a listserv for members who choose to subscribe, which includes over 150 other historians of psychology.
  • Provides a members only section on the web including employment, archive, and SHP members information.

  • Provides opportunities for members to extend their network among others interested in the history of psychology.

Best student paper presented as part of the APA Division program.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of joining the Division is $35.00 annually. 

Students and individuals who are dues exempt members of APA pay only $25.15

Professional Affiliates: $35.00
International Affiliates: $35.00

Memberships are for January-December. Applications submitted through the APA convention will be applied to the current year. After convention, applications will be applied to the next year.
