Student Research Paper Award
|
Each year Division 26 awards a prize for the best student paper at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association.
Winners will be chosen from those accepted for presentation at the conference. Students electing to participate should provide committee members with a final copy of the paper at the convention and an electronic copy prior to the convention. The paper must be the actual one presented in its entirety (12 or 13 pages maximum), with references (and endnotes and PowerPoint slides, if appropriate).
Student presenters will be judged on both the actual presentation of the paper at the meeting and quality of the printed paper itself, each weighed about equally.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Originality
- Clear use of historical research methods (e.g. appropriate use of evidence from primary and secondary sources)
- Thoroughness of documentation
- Organization, clarity of presentation
- Effectiveness of response to questions
- Contribution to knowledge
- Historiographic sophistication (evidence of understanding different ways historical questions can be formulated and addressed)
The student awards committee has the option of awarding up to three awards, depending on the quality of papers presented. The first prize should be designated “Best Student Paper”, and, when there are additional outstanding papers, up to two “Honorable Mentions” may be awarded. For additional information please contact the current committee chair (see SHP Executive Board)
